When letting property and collecting rents for Landlords resident overseas, the Agent is obliged by the Taxes Management Act (TMA) 1970 (or under similar powers of any future tax legislation) to deduct monies to cover any tax liability (unless authority to the contrary has been confirmed by the Inland Revenue in writing to the Agent). In this situation, the Agent also requests that the Landlord appoints an accountant or in default of this being done the Agent reserves the right to employ a suitably qualified accountant at the expense of the Landlord to deal with these matters in many cases, a landlords tax liability is minimal when all allowable costs are deducted.
